In 2017, David hit a breaking point. After five years of building a career in academia, his dream job ended in redundancy. The loss wasn't just professional. It stripped away his purpose, identity, and confidence. The spiral came fast. Weight gain, isolation, and eventually, a diagnosis of clinical depression. But that moment became a turning point. Faced with a gift that no longer fit — an XXXL shirt on Christmas Day — David made a promise to himself. This would not be the life he settled for.
His journey back began with a single, painful run that lasted just thirty seconds. But it didn’t stop there. He showed up the next day, and the one after that. Through consistency, discipline, and a relentless mindset, he transformed not just his health, but his entire life. He lost 80 pounds, was signed off his depression medication and started his first business; First Step Lifestyle. David went on to earn a PhD in Peak Performance and Coaching, and compete in his first ultramarathon.
